Preparing the Pocket Treatment
I’ve decided to have lower double welt pockets with flaps. No upper pocket. I used a flap pattern from another Vogue jacket pattern. The welts will be 1/4″ deep with the flap inserted between the welts. After testing several methods, I’ve decided to use the method that Cabrera describes as a [...]
I was participating in a tailored jacket project with the SewCouture list atQuiltropolis. The project stalled for a while (over a year!) but I’ll be starting up again. In the mean time here’s a report of my progress so far.
I have practically no tailoring experience so I’m using 3 different books as reference for [...]
You might say that organization is just another one of my hobbies. I find myself unable enjoy sewing unless my supplies and equipment are categorized and labeled. I find it really helps my productivity to be able to lay my hand on some particular piece of equipment or fabric when I need it. I thought [...]
Below are the roman shades I made. I’m pleased with how they look, except they don’t seem to fold nicely. The bottom few folds work ok, but then they go crazy. I did make sure that the rings are lined up perfectly. I’m pretty sure this problem is caused by the blackout lining I used [...]
Every time I hear the idea of keeping a sewing journal I think “yeah, that’s a great idea”. And then I promply forget about it until the next time someone mentions it. Well, the great folks on the Sew4Kids4Fun list at Quiltropolis have finally motivated me to do it!
Like most people I go through sewing ups [...]
I use various methods to organize my other sewing stuff, e.g. notions, thread, sewing machine feet, embroidery floss, etc.. I mostly aim for tidiness and convenience. The most beautifully organized arrangement wont stay that way unless its also convenient.
For example, I keep my sewing machine fee in a clear plastic case with dividers. I [...]
I didn’t organize my patterns until fairly recently. At last count I have over 800 patterns. Its a lot, but it definitely doesn’t put me in the category of “great pattern stashers of the 20th century”. I store my patterns in cardboard boxes; some bought for that purpose, some are old computer-paper boxes. My sister, [...]
I made some vests for my husband.
The first vest is made of a medium weight woven, printed cotton. The print has a black on burgundy background pattern with Egyptian-looking icons printed in gold and black. Although, from a distance the pictures remind me of Easter Island heads. The vest is lined with lightweight black [...]
This my first attempt at faced buttonholes. These ones are triangular shaped. I also used fabric-covered buttons. Adds to the “geometric” look don’t you think?
