Next in the series of designs that Miranda has requested is the rose capelet. (See also the Bunny Express Vest). This is another design that she saw in a Happy Happy Clover manga. Here is the design drawing I found on my table. It was followed by several others, but this one I think captured [...] Miranda frequently leaves little drawings around of designs she’d like me to make. I can tell its time to do something about it when she keeps showing me alternate views of the design. I can get a hint. Here is a recent item I made for her that was inspired by her favorite manga Happy [...] Here’s a set of ponytail ties has a bear face attached that I made for my youngest. Basically its a felt-mascot face attached to a tie. And here is a set of Hello Kitty Hair ties. I made the pattern for these. I got a picture from the web of Hello Kitty and [...] My sister Jeanne made these beautiful pieces of jewelry. I think its more a testament to her jewelry making than my bead making though. She’s got a fantastic eye for combining things asymetrically, and managed to take a batch of wholly unremarkable beads and turn them into something beautiful. [...] I adore vintage apron patterns. I have a large collection, and have scanned the covers of a few to use them as decorations on the walls of my sewing room. Here is a gallery of photos. [...] Here are some pictures of a black crepe evening jacket I made with embroidery in silk ribbon, perle cotton, and beading on the lapels (all in black, although the seed beads were actually clear with a black tint to them). The picture quality is really terrible. Its difficult to photograph black-on-black pieces effectively. On the [...] Fixing the Pockets Well, I did it. I went back and remade both pocket flaps. However, instead of making both straight, I made them both uneven in the same way. I kind of preferred the way it looked. It did mean that I had to cut another suede pocket flap. The flaps will be shown [...] Finishing the Pockets I made a new pocket flap to replace the one that I didn’t like. That suede is really hard to work with. I probably would have made this whole thing a lot easier if I’d skipped the suede details, but I really like the look. Oh well. After sewing the front seams [...] Preparing the Pocket Treatment I’ve decided to have lower double welt pockets with flaps. No upper pocket. I used a flap pattern from another Vogue jacket pattern. The welts will be 1/4″ deep with the flap inserted between the welts. After testing several methods, I’ve decided to use the method that Cabrera describes as a [...] I was participating in a tailored jacket project with the SewCouture list atQuiltropolis. The project stalled for a while (over a year!) but I’ll be starting up again. In the mean time here’s a report of my progress so far.
